...diving the Mind

Now what's she going on about?

raphaeliteglow, rain, sentinel1, fractal figments, disgruntled cat squee, pdx-yule, insanity button, serenity, sentinel3, one of those days, nothing2, no-text nightvision1, vamp, sentinel2, bronze celtic dragon, greenwoman-magic, WinterTide, pet loss, nightvision2, oh shit, headbanger, gone hunting, ani-foodfoodfood, surprised cat, fallwoman, wave

Yattering about whatever comes into my head. Could be knitting, jewelry making, books... But just as likely to be my state of mind, or family history. No one ever said I stayed focused.

Yarn Harlot In Portland 2008 - The Outtakes

Yep, the rest of the decent - and some semi-decent - photos. And not nearly so much text. <g> Some are pretty blurry. I have got to practice taking action shots! I'm sure my camera can do it; I'm the one who doesn't know what she's doing, and sticks to auto settings. I foresee some intense studying of the manual before the next event I go to. I hope, anyway. Now that I've stated my intention, no doubt it'll take me a couple of years before I get around to it.

So, a mixed bag here; let's get to it!

PDX, 4/22/2008: Among Other Things, Stephanie Could See Over The Podium This Time

If you're going to hold a bang-up event for knitters, like the Yarn Harlot coming to town, make sure a yarn company throws it. Better yet, make sure said company's yarns are wildly popular. Then to add all the toppings, make it a local company.

About 30 miles down the Columbia River from Portland, Oregon, in a smallish town named Scappoose, there's this little yarn company called Blue Moon Fiber Arts. Maybe you other knitters have heard of it?

Whoooooooooooooeeeeeeeeeeee, did we have a fun time Tuesday night!

But it started even earlier than that, for the energetic among us. Get the snacks and something to drink. We're gonna be here a while. I said this was going to be long, didn't I? <eg> Warning: For those of you who haven't been warned before, I do mean long. I'm habituated by con reports, so this is seriously in-depth on detail. Also, of course, I have no life. Heh.

Right. Just a head's up.

A) I'm back. <g> Sorry it's taken so long; panic attacks and leg took me over. Raveltherapy helped.

B) Madrona Part 3 will be delayed yet again, until after next post, because--

C) The 22nd, Earth Day, was the day of the Yarn Harlot's stop in Portland on her current book tour. And if I don't write that sucker up soon, I'll forget half of it!

D) So look for a reeeaaallllyyyyyy long post about Stephanie in Portland either late tonight, or bright and early Friday in the wee hours.
(God willing and the crick don't rise.) Lots of babbling, lots of pix. I've finally got all the links sorted out (ohgawd, I hope so, anyway), and have to start editing the pix; which knowing me, will take longer than anything else. Plus I need to get part of the story from other sources, as I was on the wings of that particular action, couldn't see very well, and we were all laughing too loudly for me to hear. ;) Hopefully I'll get that info soon enough that I can put it in the next post. If not, it'll get its own post. We will not be delayed any longer!

E) Lordy, it's nice to be back. I've missed you guys! Thanks for being so patient, and I hope y'all haven't given up on me. <g>

Onwards!

So, finally I can sit at the computer longer, and start getting back to what passes for normal. Heh. Yeah, I know, I know..."normal" is merely a loose approximation around here. Oh, and I do have pix of the initial leg bruising in this post, so brace yourself, ok? Be glad I didn't have the energy to take more later to gross you out. <eg>

First, since there's a backlog of comments, I'm going to hit the high spots on those, rather than doing my usual commenting back. (Keep fingers crossed, within a few months I hope to have switched to some other blog host where I'll be able to email replies to comments. Oh, the bliss!) While I hate to reply in comments, I hate even worse to lump you kind folk together like this...but it's a choice between replying to umpteen comments or making a post, and I kind of figured you all might like to see something new up here, y'know? Hope I'm right on that. <g>

Thus...

You may have noticed that I've been lollygagging around about producing Part 3 of the Madrona report. Well, to quote Granny Weatherwax and Terry Pratchett, I aten't dead yet, but my leg really had a number done on it; and it's still at the point where sitting at the computer for more than about 15-20 minutes makes it swell up like-- Um, something really swollen. And hurt a lot; let's not forget that part.

In Which We Get to the Spending of Money Part, Meeting Various Vendors and Knitters, and Overnight at the Knitingales

So, a day later than planned, here we go again. (Sorry, but my leg decided to start swelling in new places Wednesday. I couldn't sit as long as I thought I'd be able to and had to go lie back down and elevate the sucker some more.) Not nearly as many pictures today. <g> But don't worry, you'll get to see some! And CCR, there will be more color. ;)

Or, How to Practice Your Photography, Miss Lots of Sleep, Spend Money, Embarrass Yourself in a Restaurant While Scaring Your Relatives Half to Death, and Still Have Fun Despite the Bruises

Explanation of the bruises will come later. Including pictures, in the next day or so, whenever I get to that point in this honkin' novel; so any of you who are squeamish are forewarned. <g> But trust me, I'm still alive (well, obviously) and nothing is broken.

Must...Sleep... Before... Posting.. Madrona Report...

Before the start of it, that is. Oh yeah. This one's gonna be humongous. A monster. Probably a three-parter, much of those parts consisting of lots and lots and lots of photos. I've been deleting duds, editing, uploading and captioning photos much of the night, and still have only completed all those steps for...get this...35 pix. Which, be forewarned, you're going to get in just the first post. Yes, you read that right; 35 pix in Madrona post #1 alone, unless LJ has a hissy fit about it. Pack a lunch.

Yeah, I took a shitload. And I haven't even taken photos of the yarn I bought yet. !!!! Or my knee; rather, my leg by now. (You'll get the story of that later, trust me. Oh yeah.)

Anyway, I am going to post most of the ones that turned out well. 'Cause plenty are shots taken from the train on the trip up, and for a change, you'll be getting to see me showing you something of the PNW outside Portland. ;) As opposed to shots of the scenic route back and forth to my doctor's office. <g> Plus shots around Tacoma. Sunday was fantastic, bright and clear and sunny, and the mountain was out (i.e., Mt. Rainier could be seen, instead of modestly hiding behind fog, drizzle, clouds and other sundry precipitation; a rare event), and looking gorgeous, and I was a photographing fiend.

But right now I'm falling asleep. When I type something, then stare at it, wondering if it's spelled correctly and not being able to tell for several minutes, I know I've hit the wall. I'm going to go zonk for a few hours before making the real post. So this is a promissory note for later today. ;) There will, by gum, be a post!

Just not until my eyelids can stay up. <g> Which should hopefully be possible by this afternoon. I'm pretty sure of that, rather than it being late tonight, because right now it's 8:45 a.m. PST, and I don't think I'll be zonking for anything like 15 hours. But I might go 6 to 8 hours. You do the resulting time zone calculations, I'm too groggy. Whatever, I should be able to get the sucker up a few hours after I stagger out of bed.

Well, I've gotta write something more than just photo captions, after all.

So check back later today, ok? See ya!

Well, yes, things are finally happening again, and I actually have something to write about. Amazing! Although sorry for no responses to comments the last umpteen times; geesh, my mom would've whacked me. Can I plead sleeping sickness due to new cholesterol meds?

No, I didn't think that'd cut me much slack. <g>

However, thanks all for the comments; much appreciated as always, but I'm going to forge ahead and use that as a blanket thank-you instead of going back and replying individually in comments as I usually do. Otherwise, you know me. I'd likely get bogged down in that, and end up dithering for ages before another post. Although I do have to wave madly at two new people dropping by, bless them. RobinH came over, and so did another Monica - not far from me, yet! - both after seeing a comment from me on the Yarn Harlot's blog. And I have to say hi, of course. Hi, RobinH! Hi, Monica! (And does that make you giggle as much as it does me? LOL.)
